One or more Trustees are required for CEME, the Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence.  CEME was established in 2023 as a registered charity with the objective of contributing to regeneration of the Thames Gateway region.  They are based in Rainham, East London.

Over 20 years, the organisation has morphed into a well-respected business campus providing premium quality flexible workspace, workshops and events space for training, conferences, and private hire. CEME remains a registered charity aspiring to make a difference to people’s lives for the better.

At the East London Campus CEME offer start up and early-stage growth companies high quality fully serviced office and technical workshop accommodation.  They work closely with their customers to provide networking and support activities to enable them to grow, faster than was thought possible.

So far CEME have helped over 100 SMEs access finance for growth, over 3,500 jobs created and over 500 engineering apprenticeships delivered.

CEME wants to help upskill the next generation of engineers, manufacturers and technicians.  They have collaborated with several partners including, Ford, London Borough of Havering, University College London and The Manufacturer Magazine.

Social Value

CEME will focus on skills development; increased higher level qualifications, apprenticeships, and trainees.  This will lead to increased employment, enterprise and skills opportunities accessed and secured by local people, particularly those who are underrepresented and from disadvantaged groups. Recent analysis shows the social return on investments is a ratio of around 4:1 meaning that £4 of social and economic value is created for every £1 invested.

Trustee Requirements

  • Passionate about and committed to supporting regeneration in East London and surrounding areas
  • Can actively contribute to CEME’s culture, vision, and strategy
  • Has knowledge of working in one of the following areas
    • economic regeneration + job creation
    • skills development + apprenticeships 
    • manufacturing and engineering
    • energy policy and links to industry

 

Trustees will be expected to attend 4 scheduled board meetings a year and perhaps 2/3 other informal meetings or events each year.
