Our Search Process
Using First Flight's six-step process, our consultants assess candidates for leadership skills, organisational fit and ability to deliver. You won’t meet anyone who doesn’t match our standards.
Strategy
Your Non-Exec Director or Chair will be recruited through an independent search and selection process.
We will begin with an initial planning meeting to discuss your requirements and provide guidance on remuneration and, if needed, a skills audit.
A final role specification will outline responsibilities, term of office, time commitment, remuneration, and the key skills, experience, and attributes required.
Non-Executive Director and Chair Search and Selection
We will conduct targeted search and research to identify candidates who meet your specific criteria, including the experience highlighted in your initial brief.
Using the agreed Candidate Role Specification as our benchmark, First Flight will present candidates who fully meet your requirements. We will also look beyond the usual networks to ensure access to the best individuals while supporting Board diversity across skills, gender, age, and ethnicity.
Candidates presented will typically hold no more than 2–3 other roles to ensure they have the time and capacity to contribute effectively.
Interview and Offer
We will develop a longlist and shortlist of candidates who will have been personally interviewed.
You will receive candidate CVs, application notes, our interview summaries, and a scorecard showing how each candidate aligns with your criteria.
We will also support final selection, assist with negotiations, and provide a template Non-Exec Director or Chair appointment letter if required.

For roles requiring niche expertise, we partner with boutique executive search firm Samuel Jacques Associates to identify the most suitable candidates.
Building on our understanding of your needs and the agreed role specification, they conduct targeted mapping and search. This partnership provides access to below-market search and mapping fees while maintaining a seamless process aligned with our approach.
