A Non-Executive Director, with a view to becoming Non-Executive Chairman, is required for an AIM listed leading professional services company, Gateley Group plc, with headquarters in Birmingham, UK.

The business is predominantly law-led through Gateley Legal, which advises over 5,000 clients on a range of legal services and which continues to grow organically.

Gateley is forward thinking with an entrepreneurial spirit. It was the first commercial law firm in the UK to list on the London Stock Exchange Growth Market, AIM, in 2015 and it has successfully transitioned from an LLP to a plc structure.

Whilst its shape, size and corporate structure may have changed, one thing that has remained constant is Gateley’s focus on helping clients to thrive and prosper. As at 30 April 2022, the group had revenues of over £135 million. 

Non-Executive Director to Non-Executive Chairman Role

We are looking for candidates with experience of a plc Non-Executive Director or Non-Executive Chairman role in a £300m+ market cap company, who understands a people-based professional services business rather than a product business.

  • Experience of being a plc Non-Executive Director or Non-Executive Chairman with experience of Chairing meetings, Sub-Committees or events either in an Executive or Non-Executive capacity.
  • A proven track record of growing a company from £250m to £500m (or more) market cap or equivalent in a professional services business (rather than a product business).
  • A commercial background as a CEO or COO with a good network and influence with institutional shareholders and key stakeholders.
  • A clear understanding of corporate governance; can keep up with changes in regulations and market dynamics.

The Non-Executive Director will be expected to work on average 1-2 days per month (more during the first 6 months to accommodate induction). Rising to 3-4 days a month in the role of Non-Executive Chairman.

The Board meets 10 times per year with a combination of in person and virtual meetings, plus committee work and one company meeting.

Remuneration for the Non-Executive Director role is £66,000 pa rising to £72,000 pa for the Non-Executive Chairman role.  The successful candidate will join the board initially as a Non-Executive Director and transition into the role of Chairman from 1 May 2024 when the current Chair steps down having completed the maximum 9 years.
