INVESTING NED OPPORTUNITY
Smart buildings start at the light switch.
Built by an installer, with the CTO behind Hive’s thermostat.
8,000+ installations across 20 countries · ~£300k annual revenue · 93 active installers · ~£600k channel pipeline
A UK smart-building technology company is seeking up to two Investing Non-Executive Directors to support its next stage of growth. With an established product, international distribution and a next-generation platform in development, the business is looking for experienced finance and commercial leaders who can help turn earned traction into scale.
About the business

The company has developed an all-in-one smart control switch that combines lighting, heating, sensing and smart-home connectivity in a single in-wall device — the one interface every room already has, turned into the control point for the whole home. It is sold through professional installers and distributors and is installed across 20 countries.
With 8,000+ installations, ~£300k annual revenue, 93 active installers reordering and an anchor distributor growing 44% year on year, the business has an established commercial foothold and ~£600k of risk-adjusted channel pipeline — with significant room to expand through its wider installer channel and its next-generation platform
About the future

Our client is targeting revenues of around £40m within five years at an EBITDA margin of roughly 20% (approximately £8m), assuming the follow-on investment the business is now raising, and expects to operate globally through partnership and distribution arrangements. The longer-term opportunity is larger still: management models a path to a nine-figure revenue business and an enterprise value comfortably in excess of £200m at exit, as a hardware footprint in every room compounds into recurring software and data revenue — within a served market worth several hundred million pounds a year.
About the role
Two complementary Investing NED profiles are sought:
- Finance & Fundraising: an experienced CFO or Finance Director with early-stage fundraising and EIS experience and an established investor network — to help close the current round and prepare the business for its next stage of investment.
- Commercial & Growth: a senior commercial or growth leader who can help activate the installer channel, sharpen go-to-market and pricing, and grow recurring revenue as the platform expands.
Experience in smart building, proptech, energy or climate tech would be an advantage.
Investment: £50k+ per NED, by discussion, within a £150k EIS angel round — the first close of a larger seed — on an Advance Subscription Agreement (ASA) with a 20% discount to the priced round.
Commitment: approximately 1–2 days per month. Board, observer or advisory arrangements are open for discussion.
