Background

Flood risk in the UK is rising faster than insurers can price for it, with over 6 million homes already exposed and claim costs up sharply in recent years. Insurers want to act before water reaches the door, but traditional permanent flood defences rarely make financial sense: the average customer moves insurer within three years, and the average home premium doesn't come close to covering the cost of a fitted defence system. Our client has built a real-time alternative. By monitoring live flood risk data across an insurer's entire portfolio and deploying reusable protection kits only when and where they're needed, they let insurers protect any policyholder without pre-committing capital to any single property.

Progress to date:

The model is already proven: a paid pilot with a top 10 insurer validated the operational foundations of the business, delivering kits within four hours and achieving a 90% policyholder satisfaction score in two targeted counties. The operation is now looking to expand regionally and nationally in line with existing customer demand.

Simple model:

Revenue is contracted per kit reserved, generating strong unit economics with a c.50% contribution margin and a 16-month payback per kit, before eight years of high-margin recurring income. The business is now raising a fully EIS-eligible seed round to fund additional insurer roll-outs, scale delivery operations and build a runway through 2027.
